Assistant Superintendent

Hello Clinton Cardinals,

Welcome to the Clinton School District!

I had the pleasure of becoming a Clinton Cardinal in 2018 as I was hired for the Assistant Superintendent position. Before joining the Cardinal family, I was a 13-year veteran of the West Plains School District where I served aspicture of Lori Shannon an Instructional Coach, A+ Coordinator, High School Science Department Head, and College and Career Readiness Teacher.

As the Assistant Superintendent of the Clinton School District, I have the pleasure of working with our amazing educators helping them to become accomplished professionals and assisting them as they fine-tune their talent. Our highly-skilled, caring Cardinal teachers are THE integral component in making our district a success! I feel blessed to be able to work with them specifically in the areas of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional development.

Curriculum is what we teach our students. This is based on the state standards set forth by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. We also take into account what needs our students have as they matriculate through our system.

Instruction is how we teach. Using strategies which are known to produce positive results is imperative as we prepare our students for their future endeavors.

Assessment is used to verify that what we teach and how we teach is effective. Students take common and state assessments (standardized tests) so we can ascertain how effective we were in meeting the objectives needed to secure success for our students.

Professional development is used to help teachers in all areas of teaching. What does good curriculum look like, what are some great research-based instructional strategies, and how do we analyze assessments to see if our students are truly learning? Through professional development we also look at ways to help our students mentally, physically, and emotionally. Professional development can be obtained in a variety of ways such as conferences, online webinars or classes, and social media.

On a personal note, my husband Greg, the Human Resources Director at Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare, and I, have two children; Katie, who is a speech pathologist in Champaign, Illinois and Carly who is in her second year at UMKC dental school.

We enjoy calling Clinton our home and look forward to working with our community to continue the positive legacy of the Clinton Cardinals.

Sincerely,

Lori Shannon
Assistant Superintendent
